11 Simple Yet Effective Ways to Increase Your Website Traffic

Are you tired of feeling like your website is a lonely, deserted island in the vast ocean that is the internet? Do you long for more web traffic, more clients, and more revenue? Of course you do! But the question is, how do you get there?

Reality check: You can’t just create a website, sit back, and expect people to flock to it. To generate traffic, you need to promote your business as often as you can.

I know, I know – we’re all busy. But trust me, taking the time to promote your business is crucial. And for virtual businesses, even more so because you don’t have the benefit of people walking or driving by your storefront.

Below are the questions I ask my clients who are looking for more website traffic, along with suggested solutions to hopefully bring in more clients. I say “hopefully” because there are no guarantees (with anything in life).

But the one thing I CAN guarantee is that if you do nothing (or do nothing different), you can’t expect to see results. If nothing changes, nothing will change, right?

So, buckle up, as you’re about to learn some of the most simple and effective ways to drive traffic to your site and bring in those coveted clients by asking yourself these 11 questions.

You’ve got this!

1. Are You Blogging (Somewhat) Often?

First and foremost, let’s talk about blogging. You may be thinking, “ugh, writing a blog post is so boring and time-consuming!” But trust me, it’s worth it, as according to HubSpot, companies that blog get 55% more website visitors than those that don’t.

Blogging gives you the opportunity to create fresh, interesting content that not only engages your readers, but also catches the attention of search engines like Google.

2. Are You Sharing Your Blog Posts?

But don’t just stop at creating killer content – make sure you’re also sharing it! Writing a blog post and doing nothing with it is like throwing a party and forgetting to invite anyone.

Share your blog posts on your social media platforms, send them out via your e-newsletter (why collect email addresses if you’re not going to send valuable content?), and encourage others to share it too. The more eyes on your content, the better.

3. Are Social Media Links Working?

You have no idea how many times I’ve checked my client’s social media links, and they need to be corrected. If you’ve made any changes in your social media profiles (such as the URL), make sure the links on your website are updated.

Quickly check and ensure every social media page you link to on your website is leading users to the right place. This will encourage people to follow you, stay updated, and return to your website from your social media pages.

4. Are Your Social Media Pages Up-to-Date?

Speaking of social media, make sure your profiles are in tip-top shape. Double-check that you have completed each profile and added a link to your website for your followers to access easily.

But don’t just let it lay there stagnant. Social media is a great way to drive traffic to your website, so use it! Share helpful content, engage with your audience, and use relevant hashtags to increase visibility.

5. Are You Making Appointments Easy?

If the only way people can book a session with you is to email you or fill in your contact form, you’re missing a trick. Get more people to visit your website by creating a “schedule” page where clients can book a consultation with you.*

Whatever you can do to make your life – and your clients’ lives – EASIER will help to drive people to your website again and again because who doesn’t love convenience?

*One caveat is that some companies (like yours truly) want to gather a little information from you before setting up a time to meet. In other words, having a schedule page on your site can be a fantastic way to book a consultation with you…but it’s not the ONLY way.

6. Are You Collaborating With Others?

Collaborating with other businesses or experts in your niche can be a great way to reach a wider audience and increase traffic to your website. And there are many ways you can collaborate, such as:

  • Sharing each other’s content
  • Writing guest posts for them
  • Co-hosting webinars or events
  • Appearing on podcasts together
  • Offering them an affiliate program

These collaborations can incentivize others to promote your website with the goal of increasing website traffic.

7. Are You Running Any Paid Ads?

Another way of driving traffic to your website (and fast!) is by investing in paid advertising. You don’t have to rob a bank for this, just set a clear budget and track your ROI (return on investment) to make sure it’s worth it.

Use platforms like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, or Instagram Ads to create targeted ads that reach your ideal audience. Make sure to monitor your results with a free tool like Google Analytics and tweak your campaigns based on previous results to get the most bang for your buck.

8. Are You Following SEO Best Practices?

One of the best ways to increase traffic and drive consistent traffic to your website is by optimizing it for search engines. In fact, organic search traffic (traffic from search engines) drives a massive 53.3% of website traffic!

Don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds! It’s like making your website more attractive to Google so that it shows up higher in search results. This can bring in more relevant traffic and potential customers.

Here are the key search engine optimization (SEO) best practices to implement to increase web traffic:

  • Use relevant keywords in website content
  • Use relevant keywords in meta tags
  • Use long tail keywords for blogs
  • Create content that helps people
  • Use alt tags for images
  • Create high-quality blogs
  • Improve your website speed
  • Fix broken links
  • Ensure your website works on mobile devices
  • Fix any other technical issues with your site
  • Create quality backlinks (get other websites to link back to your website through blogging, adding your website to online directories, etc.)
  • Use Google Search Console to monitor results

9. Are You Offering Any Promotions?

Offering promotions and discounts is a great way to get more website traffic because, hey, we all love a bargain, right?

Try using different online channels such as social media, email marketing, or paid advertising to promote your special offers or discounts and drive traffic to your website.

10. Are You Emailing Potential Customers?

Email marketing is another cool way to stay connected with your clients and drive traffic back to your website. Build an email list of subscribers interested in your products or services and send regular newsletters with helpful content.

Don’t be too pushy when promoting your business, or your target audience might unsubscribe faster than you can say “spam”. Use enticing subject lines and clear calls to action in your emails to encourage your subscribers to click through to your website.

11. Are You Networking With Others?

Lastly, participating in online communities can be a fun way to meet other people in your industry and get more referral traffic for your website.

You can share resources, answer questions, and offer valuable advice in these online forums to encourage more people to visit your website to learn more. Just make sure you follow the rules and don’t constantly promote yourself. Be gentle, folks!
